  • SWB Visiting the school

    Earlier this year Service Without Borders students that is Hallie Tucker MaryGrace VanDervort and Jarek Campbell visited the school along with Maasai Education Foundation‘s chairperson and board member Theo Dillaha and Steve Conner. After a stay of two to three weeks here at Engaruka English Medium Primary School, SWB students had to share their experience of being here at school because it was their first time. 
  • Grand Opening of the Engaruka-TX English Medium Pre-Primary School

    On September 17, the Engaruka Community Initiative Organization (ENCO) held the Grand Opening of the Engaruka-TX English Medium Pre-Primary School with representatives from the TX Foundation, which had contributed $70,000 towards the construction of the pre-primary school building.

ENCO is a charitable, not-for-profit, Tanzania registered non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the livelihoods and well-being of vulnerable women and children of rural Maasai communities through health, education, and economic empowerment programs.  Engaruka was founded in 2016 and operates in the Arusha region of Tanzania, particularly in Monduli, Ngorongoro and Longido districts. Though we focus primarily on women and children, we recognize that educating men is necessary for the well-being and empowerment of women and children. Consequently, we also provide educational services to men.

Objectives

Educate girls. Improve the health of vulnerable women and children in remote Maasai communities through the delivery of health services and health education programs.

In pastoralist Maasai communities illiteracy rates are approximately 75% and women are the worst affected.
