Nailenya Lesinet
Nailenya Lesinet is a 10 years old boy from a small village called Naisiijo. Nailenya’s father is polygamous with 5 wives and over 30 children. He is the 4th child out of 6 children from his mother. His very bright in class and also does well outside the class that is sports and games. His father is very old now and cannot take good care of the family hence Nailenya and his brothers live in a very harsh environment because of struggling to get basic needs. All in all Nailenya likes schools and wishes to be an Engineer when he completes his studies/.
Lesiwan Naampapa
Lesiwan Naampapa is a seven years old boy who comes from a small village called oltemwai. When we found Lesiwan, he was keeping cattle and goats. That was his major assignment. His father abandoned them and went to another Region leaving lesiwan alone with her mother. Her mother has 4 children and lesiwan is the second born. Lesiwan is very bright in class and even his class teacher says that too. His mother also keeps cattle and goats to sustain their lives with his younger brothers who are at home
Nengai Ndung’ani ndari
Nengai Ndung’ani ndari is a 10 years old girl who study’s grade three at EEMPS. She comes from a small village called Ndimi. Nengai’s father never wanted her to attend school. He is sick suffering from heart failure hence he wanted Nengai to get married so he can use her bride price to cover his medical bills. His father is very poor and has more 20 children. Nengai and her brother are the only ones who study and they both attend EEMPS. Her brother is in grade six.
Sara martin
Sara martin is a 9 years old girl form Engaruka village who studies in grade two. Sara was adopted with a certain grandmother who she lives with in Engaruka village. Sara’s mother died and his father is unknown. Her guardian is very old and can’t afford to provide everything for her but she sees the importance of Education for Sara. She works very hard in class
Nasieku Medukenya
Nasieku Medukenya is a 8 years old girl from a a small village called selela. His father has 3 wives and Nasieku’s mother is the third wife with 7 children. Naanyu is the 5th child. They once used to depend in cattle keeping for food but for the past few years monduli region is experiencing prolonged drought season hence domestic animals die a lot. Her family is now remained with very few to accommodate them, hence keeping this girl at home was not a good idea due to the fact that she might be taken for marriage in exchange of cattle for bride price
Naanyu Ngaiseki
Naanyu Ngaiseki is a 9 years old girl from lake Natron. His family were victims of the Ngorongoro eviction that started 2018. They were homeless for a longtime before they migrated to Ngaresero. They now live there and are left with absolutely nothing. His father has 2 wives with almost 14 children. Few children got lucky to go to school including Naanyu who studies here at EEMPS.
Meshuko Saning’o
Meshuko Saning’o is a five years old boy from a small village called selela. His father married two wives and meshuko’s mother is the second wife. Due to polygamy, his father does not take good care of the family because he has more that 10 children already. His mother is a small peasant and they depend on little maize cultivated from a small-scale farm to feed them. Sometimes it is not enough for the whole family
Esupat Simba Roine
Esupat Simba Roine was admitted at EEMPS in the year 2022. She is a nursery student. Her father married one wife; they were once settled in engaruka before they moving to a small village called Selala. She also has a sister at EEMPS who studies in grade 5. She says she wants to be a teacher when she grows up just like her class teacher madam Kinyi.
ST MATH classes
ST Math is a program that starts by teaching the foundational mathematical concepts visually, then connects these ideas to the symbols, language, and robust discourse. With this visual learning, students are better equipped to tackle unfamiliar math problems, recognize patterns, and build conceptual understanding. This program was donated to us through MEF to be used by our school project that is Engaruka English Medium primary school. The school has started teaching ST MATH and students love this program. Martha Olemisiko (Sengeruan)
Martha Olemisiko (Sengeruan) is the manager of Engaruka English Medium School (EEMPS) and Executive Director of the Engaruka Community Initiative Organization (ENCO), which operates the school. Martha is Maasai and obtained her B.S. in Sociology from the Catholic Univ. of Eastern Africa, Nairobi. She worked for the Maasai Women Development Organization (MWEDO) for 8 years as the Education Program Officer and Program Manager. Babu Naajai
Babu Naajai is a nursery student, His father marriage to four wives. with the total of 22 children. Babu and her sister Naropil are the only children that attend to school. They both study at EEMPS. His older sisters are already married due to early marriage. He is smart in class as well.
Papa-kinyi Julius Loiborsek
Papa-kinyi Julius Loiborsek is a young boy from a small village called selela. He is five years old. His father married two wives. His mother was the second wife. Papa is very smart in the class and other students both from nursery and other classes like him because of his comedian habits. He is very funny. He also has the best hand writing in class. Papa says that he wants to be an accountant when he grows up.
